Chicken Stingel
By: Kenny Schachter, Maura & Margaret
Opening: Sunday May 25th, 2025, 2–5pm
The one-day-only live painting performance features a series of canvases and digitally developed copper casts. Installed primarily in a chicken coop, the works by Kenny Schachter, Maura and Margaret — a pair of Gallus gallus domesticus (domestic chickens) — will remain on view by appointment on weekends through June 21.
The exhibition draws inspiration from Rudolf Stingel’s early 2000s works made on large insulation panels (Celotex Tuff-R), which were inscribed by gallery visitors and later cast in electroformed copper, nickel, and gold. In this iteration, chickens take the place of the public. A set of micro-canvases were coated in edible glue, sprinkled with feed, and placed in Maura and Margaret’s coop. The resulting pecked surfaces will be digitally scanned and cast in silver and gold — continuing the tradition of transforming ephemeral marks into permanent material.
